Aren’t we a fine pair?
Hello humans this is Cinemablind and today we are going to review Marvel’s first series on Disney+ WandaVision premiere episodes. The whole review is spoiler-free, so read it and go watch the series, or read it after watching the series.
The first-ever series to exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), WandaVision has premiered on Disney+ today with its first two episodes and they are a little unconventional but they set up the series perfectly. Both episodes directed by Matt Shakman, are a whimsical homage to the 50s sitcoms, but also adding some layer of mysteries that no one can unsee.
WandaVision: Ep. 1 & 2 – Story?
WandaVision’s first episode is written by Jac Schaeffer and the second episode is written by Gretchen Enders. Story-wise there is not plot developed for us yet, both of the premiere episodes feel like a setup for the upcoming larger stories, but that’s perfectly fine because these episodes really tell a perfectly weird and romantic story much like Wanda and Vision’s relationship. We see both of the characters move into a fictional town named Westview and start their newlywed life in a new home, as they try to live their ordinary life with extraordinary powers, they meet their neighbors, and other people nearby, but throughout both episodes, there is an eerie feeling that constantly puts Wanda at unease, as well as the viewers.

WandaVision: Ep. 1 & 2 – Direction?
Matt Shakman pulled off quite a feat with the first two episodes of WandaVision, he totally immersed the characters and the background in the 50s nostalgia, and the end frame is a brilliant piece of work, which will introduce the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the TV industry quite nicely. Matt Shakman shot the whole first two episodes in Black & White, and they look stunning and perfectly give us that 50s sitcom vibe.
WandaVision: Ep. 1 & 2 – Acting?
Paul Bettany stands out as the loving husband and funny robot in the first two episodes as well as Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda who provides many laughs for the viewers and most of the tension also is provided by her character which is played perfectly by her, and other characters also provide some very memorable pieces scenes of television comedy. Kathryn Hahn as the Nosy Neighbour is quite funny, and also Fred Melamed as Mr. Hart is very intense yet funny.
