We have a bit of good news for the fans who loved Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, as the streaming giant has just renewed the fantasy adventure series for two more seasons in advance.
Based on an animated series of the same name by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the Netflix live-action series is set in a world that is divided by four nations – Air Nomads, the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribe, and the Fire Nation. All of the Nations are fighting a 100-year war against the Fire Nation, who are trying to conquer and rule the whole world. The three nations might get a chance at winning this war if the prophesized Avatar reappears, who has been missing for 100 years.
The series’ story follows the last Airbender alive, a boy named Aang who is the Avatar prophesized to win the nation in their fight against the tyranny of the Fire Nation after he learns all of the bending styles from all of the nations. In his journey to becoming the Avatar, he should be helped by a Water bender Katara, and a Water tribe warrior Sokka.
The original animated series had three seasons in total and this renewal announcement means that the live-action series will be able to complete its story. Given that the creators adapt the next two seasons just as the first one, but more than eight episodes per season would help in letting the characters and the story breathe.
Created by Albert Kim, the Netflix live-action series stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas James Liu as Zuko, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh, Momona Tamada as Ty Lee, Elizabeth Yu as Azula, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai.
