Marvel’s Hit Monkey creators Josh Gordon and Will Speck confirmed that they have already mapped out what’s going to happen in Seasons 2 and 3 of the animated series. The duo started the development of the series in early 2019 when Hulu announced multiple Marvel shows including M.O.D.O.K., Tigra & Dazzler, and Howard the Duck. All of these shows were planned to make up a crossover special The Offenders, similar to Netflix’s crossover The Defenders, but plans for the crossover special were canceled as Marvel Television became a part of the Marvel Studios.
Marvel chose to make M.O.D.O.K. and Hit Monkey, with Gordon and Speck serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series. Hit Monkey follows the title character a Japanese snow monkey as he is accompanied by a ghost of an American assassin Bryce, and together they hunt down the people who killed Bryce and Hit Monkey’s whole clan. The animated series stars Fred Tatasciore as Hit Monkey, Jason Sudeikis as Bryce, Olivia Munn as Akiko, Ally Maki as Haruka, and George Takei as Shinji Yokohama.
In an interview with Screenrant about the Marvel animated series Hit Monkey, creators Gordon, and Speck said that they have “enormously detailed” plans for the second and third season of the series. They still haven’t gotten the green light from either Marvel or Hulu, but they are optimistic about the show’s future. Read what they said below:
Will Speck: “We don’t have any future plans, in terms of no commitments, but in terms of a bible for the next 10 seasons, we have it very handy if you’d like to hear about it. [Laughs]”
Josh Gordon: “Certainly the second and third seasons were enormously detailed and drawn out. We wanted the first season to work as its own complete meal and it really does sort of operate almost like an extended feature in that way, where it has a very strong beginning, middle and end and it does stand alone. But in terms of where these characters would go, including Lady Bullseye, there’s a lot to be had there.”
We still don’t know if Marvel and Hulu will renew Hit Monkey for a second season, but they should as it’s one of the best Marvel projects out there with its obscure characters and connections to the comics. The creators of the series have really made the animated series their own. Hit Monkey is currently holding 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it has recieved mostly positive reviews. Hit Monkey is available to stream with all of its ten episodes on Hulu.
