“The Blind Banker” is the second episode of the first season of the Sherlock series. The episode ensues Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they contemplate an excursion of ciphers representing numbers in an ancient Chinese numeral system that has been left by a Chinese smuggling ring who seem eager to kill and procure an element that one of them stole.

There were two scenes which were eliminated before the release.

  • After the opening credits, and before the scene with John having a row with the checkout machine at the supermarket, a scene in which Van Coon jumps out of a taxicab upon getting home, darting into his building before the cabbie can ask him if he wants a receipt. He is seen rushing up the elevator, locks the chain bolt on the door, finds his SIG-Sauer P226 in a kitchen door, dashes into his bedroom, and jams a chair against the door.
  • After Sherlock takes the jade hairpin from Van Coon’s secretary, he and John return it to the museum, and the hairpin is added to the costume of the Empress Wu mannequin. He hands it to the museum director, while John hands Seb’s check to Andy. A close-up shows Soo Lin Yao’s name being added on to the list of museum benefactors.

Another scene that was kept away from the audience is from Season 3, episode 2. Check what happened in that episode.

Sherlock struggles to deliver the best man’s speech at John and Mary’s wedding reception. Sherlock tells the guests about past unsolved cases, and inadvertently stumbles upon the identity of the murderer and his next intended victim.

The scene which was excluded:

At a “Meet the Filmmakers” Apple Store event, Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch revealed the deleted scene. “Doing the drunk stuff was lovely,” says Freeman, “but I regret there was one bit of that drunk stuff that was missing. There was the gay club scene.

Martin explained the scene: “We were absolutely mullered in the gay club – lots of topless men going past, and us just going ‘Why are we here?’”

“The Six Thatchers” is the first episode of season 4, in which Sherlock waits to see where Moriarty will make his posthumous move. One mysterious case, in particular, baffles Scotland Yard, but Sherlock is more interested in seemingly trivial detail. Why is someone destroying images of the late prime minister Margaret Thatcher? Is there a madman on the loose?

The scene which was excluded:

According to Amanda Abbington, there was a dinner scene with John and Mary the place she “was simply saying that she’s flying uncontrolled and he or she doesn’t really feel like she’s grounded”, thus introducing the concept the couple was drifting aside, which led John to cheat on her.
