Game of Thrones might have ended on a disappointing note, but there is still a lot of hope for the universe HBO is trying to create around the fantasy epic series. Based on George R.R. Martin‘s books, HBO has greenlighted and even canceled many spin-offs and prequels to Game of Thrones, but in this list, we are only talking about the shows and movies that have been confirmed to come out.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
Status: In Post Production & Premiering in late 2025

Based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg stories, the upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will be the second Game of Thrones spin-off series. It revolves around Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg (Egg is actually Aegon V Targaryen), as they travel through Westeros and go on various lighthearted adventures. Martin himself created A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in the lead roles with Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall, and Danny Webb.
House of the Dragon Season 3 & 4
Status: Production on Season 3 Begins in First Quarter of 2025

When House of the Dragon was nearing its release, many were wondering if the upcoming prequel series could capture the original series’s magic and if fans would even give it a chance after the GOT ending had already burned them. Still, fans got everything they wanted and loved what Ryan Condal and George R.R. Martin had done with their beloved IP.
After the cliffhanger ending of House of the Dragon Season 2, many fans were wondering where the series would go next, and thankfully, that question has been answered as it is confirmed that Season 3 will begin with one of bloodiest battles ever seen on TV or film, according to George R.R. Martin. Condal also confirmed that House of the Dragon will be wrapping up its run after Season 4.
Aegon’s Conquest
Status: In Development

If you were wondering which one of the upcoming Game of Thrones’ spin-off and prequel series fans are most excited, than in my opinion it would be Aegon’s Conquest. This upcoming Game of Thrones series will be set 300 years before the events of Games of Thrones, and it follows the story of Aegon the Conqueror as he escapes Valyria and brings together six of the seven kingdoms in Westeros. Aegon’s Conquest sounds like the perfect mix of action, adventure, and dragons that GOT fans are looking for.
The Sea Snake
Status: In Development

The Sea Snake is an upcoming prequel animated series to the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. It will follow the early voyages of Corlys Velaryon, a character we already know and love from House of the Dragon. The series will apparently explore how Velaryon actually got his name of Sea Snake. The pilot script for the upcoming series comes from The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller.
10,000 Ships
Status: In Development

Arya Stark’s enthusiasm for the warrior queen Nymeria may have something to do with this prequel series being made. The upcoming prequel series titled 10,000 is set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and it follows the story of Nymeria, who and her people took their fleet of 10,000 ships and traveled to Dorne. Aside from what it will be about, nothing concrete, like casting and creators for the upcoming series, has been announced, but the concept does sound interesting.
Upcoming Game Of Thrones Movie
Status: In Development

During the 2025 preview event, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys dropped the news that a Game of Thrones movie is in early development at the studio. While he asked the fans to temper their expectations as the film is in the early stages of development, the fans are already hoping for a sequel film that will give them a better ending to their favorite series. Nothing about the plot, cast, and creators has been confirmed, but all we can hope for is that it doesn’t disappoint fans like the GOT finale.
The Golden Empire
Status: TBD

If you didn’t know already, an animated series about the Golden Empire set in the Game of Thrones universe is in development. While there is not much known about the upcoming animated series, Martin has given us a little bit of information, such as the series will be set in the nation Yi Ti, which is very different and far from Westeros. So, it could bring some variety to the GOT universe.
