We are heading to Hogwarts again as Warner Bros. is reportedly near to closing a deal to make a Harry Potter series that will air on their streaming service HBO Max. The deal is not yet final but J.K. Rowling is said to be spearheading the development of the series.
There is not much information about the upcoming series but according to Bloomberg, every season of the upcoming series will be based on one of Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books. This might mean that the stories we will see in the upcoming series will coincide with the events of the books and the films. Bloomberg also reported that Warner Bros. and HBO Max are hoping to “delve further into the world of Rowling’s books.”
Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav and HBO Max head Casey Bloys have been working together to get Rowling involved with the project and if the deal is finalized, it would be the first Harry Potter project since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 that Rowling has signed off on even though she did write and co-produce the Fantastic Beasts films. While Rowling will be developing the series it is final that she will not serve as the showrunner.
The Harry Potter film franchise starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the lead roles. Still, it is not yet clear if they will show up in the upcoming series or if it would involve their characters in any capacity.
