HBO Max has decided to cancel the January 8 red carpet Los Angeles premiere event of the upcoming DC live-action series Peacemaker, because of the surge of the Omicron variant. The decision to cancel the event was made before the holidays, according to Deadline.

Peacemaker is created by James Gunn, and it based on a character from Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad. The series will John Cena as the title character, Daniella Brooks as Adebayo, Freddie Storm as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt, Chukwudi Iwuji as Murn, Steve Agee as Economos, and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith.

The series will consist of eight episodes and it will follow Peacemaker and his team. All of the eight episodes in the series are written by Gunn and he also directed five of the episodes.

Peacemaker will be the second big series with a cancelled red carpet event as Star Wars‘ Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett also had to cancel its red carpet event due to the virus.

Peacemaker will be premiering on HBO Max on January 13, 2022.
