2024 was a great year for horror fans as we got horrifyingly beautiful films like Nosferatu and Longlegs. While 2024 was a great year, 2025 is going to be something as we will see the release of much-anticipated films like the Last Conjuring film and Guillermo del Toro‘s take on the classic novel Frankenstein. So, we decided to compile a list of the most anticipated horror films that are coming in 2025.
Presence (January 24)
Presence is an upcoming supernatural horror thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh from a screenplay by David Koepp. The upcoming film revolves around a family who move into a suburban neighborhood and soon believe their house is haunted. While the plot for Presence sounds like a typical horror film, the ultimate twist, aka hook for the upcoming Soderbergh film, is that the film is shot from the ghost’s perspective. Presence stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Lucas Papaelias, West Mulholland, and Eddy Maday.
Companion (January 31)
Companion is an upcoming sci-fi horror thriller film written and directed by Drew Hancock. The upcoming film revolves around a group of people on a weekend getaway that turns bloody when a subservient android built for human companionship begins malfunctioning. Companion stars Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillen, and Rupert Friend.
The Monkey (February 21)
The Monkey is an upcoming supernatural horror and dark comedy film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. Based on the 1980 short story of the same name by Stephen King, the upcoming film follows twin brothers Hal and Bill, who reunite to destroy a vintage toy monkey that belonged to their father because the monkey kills people in horrifying ways. The Monkey stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. The Monkey began filming on February 5, 2024, and it wrapped up on March 22, 2024.
Death of a Unicorn (March 28)
Death of a Unicorn is an upcoming supernatural horror and dark comedy film written and directed by Alex Scharfman. The upcoming film follows Elliot and his teenage daughter, Ridley, who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn with their car. When Elliot’s employer tries to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties, each and every one of them becomes a target of a powerful force. Death of a Unicorns stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Richard E. Grant, Téa Leoni, Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, and Steve Park. Death of a Unicorn began filming in July 2023 in Hungary, and it wrapped up sometime in the summer of 2023.
Sinners (April 18)
Sinners is an upcoming horror thriller film written and directed by Ryan Coogler. The upcoming film revolves around twin brothers Elijah and Elias, who leave their troubles behind and head to their hometown in hopes of starting fresh, but what they don’t know is that an even greater evil is waiting for them at home. Sinner stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, Delroy Lindo, Li Jun Li, Lola Kirke, Yao, Miles Caton, Peter Dreimanis, Christian Robinson, and Jermaine Mctizic. Sinners began filming on April 13, 2024, and it wrapped up on July 17, 2024.
Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16)
Final Destination: Bloodlines is an upcoming supernatural horror film co-directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein from a screenplay co-written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor. The upcoming film will be the sixth installment in the Final Destination franchise, and while the plot for the film is still being kept under wraps, expect blood, gore, and fantastical mayhem. Final Destination: Bloodlines stars Tony Todd, Brec Bassinger, Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee.
28 Years Later (June 20)
28 Years Later is an upcoming post-apocalyptic horror thriller film directed by Danny Boyle from a screenplay by Alex Garland. The upcoming threequel film is set nearly 28 years after the first film, when the Rage Virus escaped a medical research laboratory, and it revolves around a father and a son who venture out into the dangerous world from their relatively safe island. 28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. 28 Years Later began filming on May 7, 2024, and it wrapped up on July 29, 2024.
M3GAN 2.0 (June 27)
M3GAN 2.0 is an upcoming sci-fi horror film directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper. The upcoming sequel film will see the violent doll arming itself with the power of artificial intelligence to wreak even more mayhem than the first film. M3GAN 2.0 stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement. M3GAN 2.0 began filming on July 15, 2024, and it wrapped up on September 21, 2024.
The Conjuring: Last Rites (September 5)
The Conjuring: Last Rites is an upcoming supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves from a screenplay co-written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing. The upcoming film will be the ninth and final installment in The Conjuring franchise,e and it will follow paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they confront a mysterious force. The Conjuring: Last Rites stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ben Hardy, and Mia Tomlinson. The Conjuring: Last Rites began filming on September 17, 2024, and it wrapped up on November 22, 2024.
The Black Phone 2 (October 17)
The Black Phone 2 is an upcoming supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derickson, who also co-wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill. Based on the 2004 short story of the same name by Joe Hill, the upcoming sequel film will see The Graber return, but any plot details are still being kept under wraps. The Black Phone 2 stars Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, Ethan Hawke, Miguel Cazarez Mora, Demián Bichir, and Arianna Rivas. The Black Phone 2 began filming on November 4, 2024, and it was supposed to wrap up on January 15, 2025.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (December 5)
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is an upcoming supernatural horror film directed by Emma Tammi, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. Based on the video game series of the same name by Scott Cawthon, the upcoming sequel film promises more animatronic mayhem, but no plot details have been revealed yet. Five Night at Freddy’s 2 reportedly stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Matthew Lillard, and Mary Stuart Masterson. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 began filming in the fall of 2024.
Frankenstein (TBA)
Frankenstein is an upcoming Gothic sci-fi horror film written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. Based on the 1818 novel of the same name by Mary Shelley, the upcoming film follows Victor Frankenstein, who aspires to defeat death by restoring life to a dead person, but he ends up creating a horrifying creature. Frankenstein stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, Christoph Waltz, and Felix Kammerer. Frankenstein began filming on February 12, 2024, and it wrapped up on September 30, 2024.
