2024 was a great year for sci-fi fans as we got brilliant films like Dune: Part Two and The Wild Robot. While 2024 was a good year, 2025 will be even better as we will see the release of much-anticipated films like Bong Joon-Ho‘s Mickey 17 and James Cameron‘s Avatar: Fire and Ash. So, we decided to compile a list of the most anticipated sci-fi films that are coming in 2025.

Companion (January 31)
Companion is an upcoming sci-fi horror film written and directed by Drew Hancock. The upcoming film follows a group of friends on a weekend getaway at a remote cabin. Their relaxing time away soon turns deadly when a companion robot malfunctions. Companion stars Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillen, and Rupert Friend.
Mickey 17 (March 7)
Mickey 17 is an upcoming sci-fi black comedy film written and directed by Bong Joon-ho. Based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the upcoming film is set in a dystopian world, and it follows Mickey Barnes, a young man who desperately wants to get off Earth and takes up the job of being a disposable employee, which means that he can be regenerated after he dies. Mickey 17 stars Robert Pattinson, Naomie Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
The Electric State (March 14, 2024)
The Electric State is an upcoming sci-fi action-adventure comedy-drama film co-directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay co-written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Based on the 2018 graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag, the upcoming film is set in an alternate 1994, and it follows a young girl who is approached by a robot claiming that her long lost brother is still and she must go on a perilous adventure to find him. The Electric State stars Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Woody Norman, Martin Klebba, and Giancarlo Esposito.
Mercy (August 15)
Mercy is an upcoming sci-fi thriller film directed by Timur Bekmambetov from a screenplay by Marco van Belle. The upcoming film is set in the near future and it follows a detective who must prove his innocence after he is falsely accused of a crime. Mercy stars Chris Pratt, Rebecca Ferguson, Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Rafi Gavron, Chris Sullivan, Kenneth Choi, Kylie Rogers, and Jeff Pierre.
The Bride! (September 26)
The Bride! is an upcoming sci-fi monster drama film written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Loosely based on the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein by James Whale, which itself was an adaptation of the 1818 novel Frankenstein. The upcoming film is set in 1930s Chicago, and it revolves around a lonely Frankenstein who asks Dr. Euphronius to create a companion for him. The Bride! stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Tron: Ares (October 10)
Tron: Ares is an upcoming sci-fi action film directed by Joachim Rønning from a screenplay co-written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. The upcoming standalone sequel is the third installment in the Tron film franchise and it sees a highly sophisticated program named Ares entering into the real world. Tron: Ares stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Jeff Bridges.
Predator: Badlands (November 7)
Predator: Badlands is an upcoming sci-fi action thriller film directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick Alison. The upcoming film is the seventh installment in the mainline Predator franchise, and it is set in the future in an alien wasteland. It follows the story of two sisters as a Predator hunts them down. Predator: Badlands stars Elle Fanning. Predator: Badlands began filming on August 27, 2024, and it wrapped up sometime in October 2024.
Bugonia (November 7)
Bugonia is an upcoming sci-fi dark comedy thriller film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Will Tracy. Based on the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet! by Jang Joon-hwan, the upcoming film follows a young man obsessed with conspiracies who kidnaps a high-powered CEO because he believes that she is an alien who has been sent to Earth to destroy it. Bugonia stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, and Alicia Silverstone.
The Running Man (November 7)
The Running Man is an upcoming dystopian sci-fi action thriller film directed by Edgar Wright, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall. Based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Stephen King, the upcoming film is set in a dystopian 2025 and it revolves around a desperate man who competes in a violent reality show to win enough money to treat his gravely ill daughter. The Running Man was previously adapted into a film with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which came out in 1987. The upcoming adaptation stars Glen Powell, Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, David Zayas, and Colman Domingo.
Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19)
Avatar: Fire and Ash is an upcoming epic sci-fi action adventure film directed by James Cameron, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The upcoming threequel film will once again take us back to the amazingly beautiful world of Pandora and continue the story of Jake Sully and his family. Avatar: Fire and Ash stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, David Thewlis, and Oona Chaplin.
