Fans of Robert Kirkman‘s Invincible Comics might know that a live-action adaptation of the popular comic book series has been in talks for a long-time and recently Kirkman gave a promising update on the possible adaptation.
Invincible has now become a big hit in both the comic book world and also in broader entertainment avenues through its Prime Video animated series. After the critically hit series also loved by the audience and fans, the comics have also enjoyed a larger audience which gave the talks of a live-action adaptation a little more fire.
An Invincible live-action project was officially announced in 2017 with a screenplay written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Keep in mind that the live-action project will be very different than the animated series and could possibly have a whole different look. However, more details about the project are still being kept under wrap.
During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kirkman shared some optimistic updates about the progress of the project and also explained the reason behind the delays, which are the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. He also shared that the people at Universal are still very much behind the project and the enthusiasm around the live-action Invincible film has grown even more after the success of the Prime Video animated series.
Kirkman’s recent interview with Comicbook is somewhat similar to his statement in January 2023, as he emphasized once more that he is still working tirelessly on making the film, and while it has been a drawn-out process, he is optimistic about where it’s heading. Check out a quote from Kirkman below:
“We’re very much still working on that. Sometimes movies take a little bit longer. I think it’s safe to say, if anything, the show has just helped that immensely. People are very excited about that movie potential at Universal. So we’re riding that excitement and trying to push things forward as quickly as possible.”
Currently, there is no information on the cast or even a director of the upcoming live-action Invincible films, but the fans are still happy that after a wait of nearly three years, they are getting Invincible Season 2 Part 1 on November 3.
