CinemaBlind’s Review – 90%
Invincible is back with its much anticipated Season 3, and from what I have seen, it’s even better than before. The adult animated superhero series has always been brilliant and bombastic in its execution, but this season’s first six episodes left me more in love with these characters than ever.
Created by Robert Kirkman, the Prime Video superhero series was always good at giving us memorable villains that came in and out of the main storyline seamlessly without taking away from the larger series of events. Season 3 of Invincible also sees many past villains from Mark Grayson’s past returning to fight him once again. Still, because of the intelligent writing and brilliant character work, I never felt tired of these characters.
Invincible Season 3 is also a lot more personal than its previous season, as it primarily focuses on the personal relationships between Mark, Eve, Deborah, and Rex. The first six episodes had minimal pacing issues because of how the creatives behind the series decided to flesh out each and every character.
While it was nice to see more personal storylines being explored, it also felt like these first six episodes didn’t build up to anything. Unlike its previous seasons, which told us where the upcoming episodes were going from the get-go, this season feels a bit directionless. But I still haven’t seen the last two episodes, and they could build up to a bombastic season finale, but for now, I can only say that if you love the characters in Invincible, you will be happy with this new season.
As always, the voice acting from all the main actors, including Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, Gillian Jacobs, Walton Goggins, and Jason Mantzoukas, is beyond reproach. The animation work is also impressive, but Invincible’s superpower is in its complex characters and storylines, and in my opinion, this season hits it out of the park.
In conclusion, the first six episodes of Invincible Season 3 were a joy to watch. The fans won’t be disappointed with how the creatives behind the series have decided to make each moment in the series a little more personal and impactful. It has flaws, but Invincible remains one of the best adult animated TV shows and one of the most interesting and thought-provoking superhero content.
