It’s been a year since the rumors about a Todd Phillips‘ Joker sequel have been circulating around the block and now we finally have the confirmation we were waiting for. The director of the film Phillips confirmed the title of the sequel and also that Joaquin Phoenix will be returning as the titular character. The current title for the Joker sequel is Joker: Folie à Deux.
The writer and director Phillips shared an Instagram post with two photos, the first was the cover photo of Joker 2’s script, the cover reveals that Phillips and Scott Silver are returning as the screenwriters. The second photo is a black and white image of Joaquin Phoenix reading the script. Any plot details about Joker: Folie à Deux has not been revealed to the public yet. The only thing we know about the movie’s plot is its title “Folie à Deux” which refers to “rare delusional disorder shared by two or more people with close emotional ties.”
Joker is one of the biggest R-rated hits, as it was received really well by both fans and critics. The film earned over $1 billion worldwide and it was nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Hildur Guðnadóttir also earned the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score).
Joker is one of the best DC films that follows the iconic villain in a new light. The story of the film follows Arthur Fleck, who is trying to be a stand-up comedian while struggling with major mental health issues. Joker serves as a very dark origin story for the well-known villain. The cast of the film includes Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Shea Whigham, Douglas Hodge, Dante Pereira-Olson, Sondra James, and Carrie Louis Putrello.
