Based on a picture book of the same name by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is directed by Donald Petrie and it revolves around an advice columnist who is given the task of writing about how to act if you want to get rid of any guy in 10 days and an advertising executive who is so confident in his abilities that he bets that he could make any girl fall in love with in 10 days. Now, as fate would have it both get together and one of them tries to do everything in her power to get him to leave while the other does everything to make her fall in love with him.
The Proposal (Hulu, Peacock & Rent on Prime Video)
One of the most popular romantic comedies ever made is The Proposal in which we see the duo of Sandra Bullock and the always hilarious Ryan Reynolds. Directed by Anne Fletcher, the rom-com film revolves around a high-powered book editor and her assistant as they pretend to be in love with each other to convince the immigration official that they are going so that she can avoid being deported to Canada. Her assistant agrees to the charade and both of them go to his family house on his grandmother’s birthday where they both get to know each other and maybe turn this falsehood into reality. But besides all of that, there is a huge jackpot at stake and the judge decides to rule against the annulment, so because of that both of them have to keep up this charade a bit longer. When it comes to raunchy romantic comedies Robert Luketic’s The Ugly Truth is a very popular title and it features the leads who start off hating each other but they grow on each other by the end just like Anyone But You. Starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler as Abby, a romantic TV producer and Mike, a somewhat romance cynic who has his theories on love and relationships start working together despite Abby’s reservations who completely despises Mike’s opinions but he challenges Abby’s beliefs and tells her that he will make the guy she likes fall in love with her only if she does everything he says. Sony is trying to bring back the goneby era of raunchy comedies with Anyone But You and No Hard Feelings which also came out in 2023. Directed by Gene Stupnitsky, the film revolves around a desperate woman trying not to lose her childhood home by doing multiple jobs including working as a cab driver but when her car gets repossessed she makes a very desperate move and goes on Craigslist. Where she finds a wealthy couple who want her to date their introverted 19-year-old son and in turn they will give her their car. As expected things don’t work out as she had planned and that’s where the comedy comes in. No Hard Feelings stars Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role with Andrew Barth Feldman, Matthew Broderick, Laura Benanti, Natalie Morales, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach starring in supporting roles.
