Netflix has given the go-ahead to The Irregulars Season 2 before its release on Netflix yesterday. It looks like Netflix is betting big on its Sherlock spin-off series.
The Irregulars Season 1 premiered on Netflix yesterday and until now the response from critics is not that good, earning only 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the fans seem to be loving it. The Irregulars has a very stellar cast including Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Royce Pierreson, and Harrison Osterfield. The series is created by Tom Bidwell.
The Irregulars Season 1 production was halted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but it came to wrap up filming between August to September 2020.
The official synopsis for The Irregulars Season 1 is:
“Sherlock Holmes had a group of street kids he’d use to help him gather clues so our series is what if Sherlock was a drug addict and a delinquent and the kids solve the whole case whilst he takes credit.“
Netflix has clearly taken a risk, but it is refreshing to see the trust of a streaming service in its series. Netflix is banking on the series being a hit because Season 2 is supposed to start production this summer in the United Kingdom in Liverpool.
Tom Bidwell is connected to The Irregulars Season 2 as writer and producer alongside Greg Brenman, Jude Liknaitzky, Michael Ray, and Rebecca Hodgson returning to produce.
Netflix has yet to officially announce the renewal of The Irregulars Season 2, and the announcement is likely to come out sometime after the premiere of Season 1. It’s not the first time Netflix has renewed a series before the first season even airs, it happened with Bridgerton Season 2, Shadow and Bone Season 2, and Ozark Season 4.
