The Boy and the Heron (September 6)
The Boy and the Heron is a Japanese fantasy anime film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The 2023 film revolves around Mahito, a 12-year-old as he struggles with the death of his mother but when a talking heron tells him that his mother is still alive. Mahito enters an abandoned tower to search for his mother, which takes him to another world. The Boy and the Heron’s English voice cast includes Robert Pattinson, Luca Padovan, Karen Fukuhara, Gemma Chan, Christian Bale, Mark Hamill, Florence Pugh, Willem Dafoe, Dave Bautista, Denise Pickering, Barbara Rosenblat, Melora Harte, and Barbara Goodson.
My Brilliant Friend Season 4 (September 9)
My Brilliant Friend returns for its much-anticipated fourth and final season this month. Created by Saverio Costanzo, HBO’s coming-of-age drama series is based on the Neapolitan Novels by author Elena Ferrante and the upcoming season will delve deeper into the adult lives of Elena and Lila as they find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s. My Brilliant Friend Season 4 stars Alba Rohrwacher, Irene Maiorino, Fabrizio Gifuni, Stefano Dionisi, Anna Rita Vitolo, Pier Giorgio Bellocchio, and Daria Deflorian.
Civil War (September 13)
Civil War is a dystopian war thriller film written and directed by Alex Garland. The 2024 film is set in a dystopian America plagued with civil war and it follows a group of war journalists traveling from New York to Washington D.C. to interview the President of the United States before the rebels take control of the White House. Civil War stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jefferson White, Nelson Lee, Karl Glusman, Jin Ha, Nick Offerman, and Evan Lai.
The Penguin Season 1 (September 19)
The Penguin is an upcoming DC crime action drama series created by Lauren LeFranc. Based on a DC Comics character of the same name by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the HBO series is set after the events of Matt Reeves’ The Batman and it revolves around Oswald “Oz” Cobb aka the Penguin as he tries to gain power in the criminal underworld of Gotham City. The Penguin stars Colin Farrell in the lead role with Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Theo Rossi, Carmen Ejogo, and Scott Cohen starring in supporting roles.
I Saw The TV Glow (September 20)
I Saw The TV Glow is a horror drama film written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun. The 2024 film is set in 1996 and it follows the story of Owen, a teenager as he bonds with Maddy, who introduces him to a mysterious late-night television show. While watching the series, Owen’s view of reality begins to blur and he experiences the supernatural world which exists beneath our own world.
