Ishura Season 1 (January 3)
Anime is one of the most popular and creative platforms for telling out-of-this-world stories and over the years, it is becoming more and more mainstream with some animes like Attack of Titan, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and many more becoming even more popular than your average streaming shows. Hulu has always been ahead in the anime game in the US, if we compare it to other streaming services this month we will see the second part of The Devil is a Part Timer! Season 2 and a brand new anime named Ishura will follow a group of warriors fighting against formidable foes to save the world after the Demon King dies and demigods inherit the world.
All Fun and Games (January 5)
Directed by Ari Costa and Eren Celeboglu, who also co-wrote the screenplay with JJ Braider comes a horror thriller film starring Asa Butterfield and Natalie Dyer. All Fun and Games revolves around a group of teenagers in Salem, Massachusetts who discover a cursed knife in which resides a demon who makes people play deadly versions of children’s games. All Fun and Games also stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Laurel Marsden, Annabeth Gish, Marina Stephenson Kerr, Kolton Stewart, and Erik Athavale.
Safe Home Season 1 (January 9)
Created by Anna Barnes, Safe Home is a limited series and it revolves around Phoebe Dee, who leaves her job at a high-profile law firm to work at a struggling family violence legal center but the pressure of her new job tests every aspect of her life. The thriller series revolves around Aisha Dee in the lead role of Phoebe Rock with Mabel Li, Thomas Cocquerel, Antonia Prebble, Virginia Gay, Chenoa Deemal, Hal Cumpston, David Roberts, Janet Andrewartha, and Tegan Stimson starring in supporting roles.
Echo Season 1 (January 9)
Marvel is back with another MCU series but this time it has a TV-MA rating. Yes, we are talking about Echo, one of the most memorable characters in the Hawkeye series. The new series revolves around Maya Lopez aka Echo, and it shows her journey after her kill attempt of the Kingpin. She goes to her hometown thinking that she is finally free from Wilson Fisk and tries to take over his empire as the Queenpin but her past quickly catches up to her while a new mystery about her ancestors is being revealed in the background. Echo stars Alaqua Cox in the lead role with Vincent D’Onofrio, Charlie Cox, Devery Jacobs, Zach McClarnon, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene starring in supporting roles.
Self Reliance (January 12)
Written and directed by Jake Johnson, who also stars as the lead in the dark comedy film Self Reliance. The Hulu film revolves around a man who is stuck in his daily routine. Still, when he is given a chance to take part in Dark Web’s biggest reality series game which involves hunters from all over the world trying to kill him but only if he is alone at the time, and if he is still not dead by the end he gets a million dollars. He quickly accepts the offer thinking he has found the loophole and as long as he sticks closely to someone for 30 days he will be a millionaire. Self Reliance also stars Anna Kendrick, Andy Samberg, Natalie Morales, Mary Holland, Emily Hampshire, and Christopher Lloyd.
A Shop for Killers (January 14)
K-dramas are quickly becoming a new craze in the worldwide entertainment industry and this upcoming action thriller series will be many fans’ cup of tea. Based on a novel of the same name by Kim Ji-young, A Shop for Killers revolves around Jeong Ji-an who grew up with her mysterious uncle Jeong Ji-man, but after the unexpected death of her uncle, she becomes a target for highly skilled assassins forcing her to fight for her survival and find out what exactly her late uncle was involved with. A Shop for Killers stars Kim Hye-jun and Lee Dong-woo in the lead roles.
Death and Other Details (January 16)
After the enormous success of Only Murders in the Building, Hulu is back with another locked-room murder mystery series that seems very entertaining and for lack of a better word quirky. The new series titled Death and Other Details revolves around Imogene Scott, the prime suspect of a locked-room murder on a yacht but to prove her innocence she has to join hands with the world’s greatest detective Rufus Cotesworth, whom she despises to no end. Created by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, the Hulu series stars Violette Beane and Mandy Patinkin in the lead roles with Pardis Saremi, Lauren Patten, Rahul Kohli, and Angela Zhou starring in supporting roles.
