While we have already made a list of the best of the best movies coming to Prime Video in August, those are not the only films you should look out for as the Amazon-owned streaming service is also bringing you a lot of original and licensed new content in the upcoming month, from an animated Batman series to the highly anticipated new season of Prime Video’s flagship fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. So, we picked out the 7 best new movies and TV shows coming to Prime Video in August 2024.

Batman: Caped Crusader (August 1)

Batman: Caped Crusader is an animated action-adventure superhero series created by J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm. The upcoming Prime Video series is set in what looks to be the 1930s or 1940s and it follows the story of the Dark Knight in a crime-filled Gotham, as he fights against some of the most deranged criminals with the help of a few allies. Batman: Caped Crusader’s voice cast includes Hamish Linklater, Mckenna Grace, Minnie Driver, Toby Stephens, Haley Joel Osment, Christina Ricci, Jamie Chung, David Krumholtz, Diedrich Bader, and Jason Watkins.

The Mallorca Files Season 3 (August 8)

The Mallorca Files is returning with its much-awaited third season after nearly three years. Created by Dan Sefton, the British police procedural series will take us back to the sun-drenched and glamorous island of Mallorca and it will continue the story of British detective Miranda Blake and her laid-back German partner Max Winter as they try to solve more mysteries and put away more dangerous criminals. The Mallorca Files stars Elen Rhys and Julian Looman in the lead roles with Maria Fernández Ache, Enrique Arce, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Charlie Higson, Michael Jibson, David Mora, Elena Saurel, Leonor Watling, and Francesc Corbera starring in supporting roles.

One Fast Move (August 8)

One Fast Move is a sports action drama film written and directed by Kelly Blatz. The upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film follows the story of Wes Neal, a destitute young man as he reconnects with his estranged father to try to become a professional motorcycle racer. One Fast Move stars KJ Appa in the lead role with Maia Reficco, Eric Dane, Austin North, Edward James Olmos, Gary Weeks, Jackson Hurst, KateLynn E Newberry, Rose Bianco, Libby Blake, and Claire Bronson starring in supporting roles.

Night Swim (August 13)

Night Swim is a supernatural horror film written and directed by Bryce McGuire. Based on the 2014 short film of the same name by McGuire and Rod Blackhurst, the 2024 film follows the story of a former baseball player Ray Waller as he moves into a new house with his wife and two children. Soon, they realize that the swimming pool in their backyard harbors some malevolent forces connected to the house’s dark past. Night Swim stars Wyatt Russell, Amélie Hoeferle, Kerry Condon, and Gavin Warren in the lead roles with Nancy Lenehan, Patrick Dempsey, Jodi Long, Ayazhan Dalabayeva, Ellie Araiza, Ben Sinclair, and Aivan Uttapa starring in supporting roles.

Jackpot! (August 15)

Jackpot! is an action comedy film directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Rob Yescombe. The upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film is set in the near future where a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California. If anybody kills the winner before sundown they get the money and if the winner stays alive they get to keep the money. We follow the story of Katie, who becomes the Grand Lottery winner and is being hunted by multiple people until Noel comes and helps her. Jackpot! stars Awkwafina and John Cena in the lead roles with Simu Liu, Taylor Ortega, Seann William Scott, Dolly De Leon, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari, Adam Ray, and Leslie David Baker starring in supporting roles.

Drive-Away Dolls (August 22)

Drive-Away Dolls is a comedy-thriller film directed by Ethan Coen from a screenplay co-written by Coen and Tricia Cooke. The 2024 film is set in 1999 and it follows the story of two young women in search of a fresh start as they go on a road trip and unwittingly get entangled in a criminal scheme involving inept criminals. Drive-Away Dolls stars Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan in the lead roles with Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal, Bill Camp, and Matt Damon starring in supporting roles.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 (August 29)

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finally returns for its highly anticipated second season with The Lord of the Rings trilogy coming to Prime Video in the same month. Created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the Prime Video series is based on the iconic novel of the same and its appendices by author J.R.R. Tolkien, and it is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The Rings of Power Season 2 will continue the story of Galadriel as she tries to stop Sauron from coming into power while Sauron tries to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power.
