The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse. So, today we thought of listing the best new sci-fi films you can watch at home right now and in this list, we didn’t include any film released before 2023.

The Creator is a sci-fi action film directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay co-written by Edwards and Chris Weitz. The 2023 film is set in the year 2055 after an A.I. created by the United States goes rogue and detonates a nuclear warhead over Los Angeles after which a war between the human and A.I. rages. We follow the story of an ex-special forces agent Joshua tasked to find and kill the architect behind advanced AI known as the Creator because it has created a mysterious that could end all of mankind when Joshua finally achieves his goals he finds that mysterious weapon is an AI in the form of a young child. The Creator stars John David Washington in the lead role with Gemma Chan, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Allison Janney, Ken Watanabe, Ralph Ineson, Benedict Wong, and Marc Menchaca starring in supporting roles.

Code 8: Part II (Netflix)

Code 8: Part II is the much-awaited sequel of the 2019 film Code 8. Directed by Jeff Chan from a screenplay co-written by Chris Paré, Chan, Sherren Lee, and Jesse LeVercombe, the sci-fi action film is set five years after the events of the first film and it follows the story of Connor who works as a janitor after getting out of prison but just when he thought he had left his previous life behind he comes across a teenage girl being hunted down by a corrupt cop and his unit and his only chance to save her is by getting help from a drug lord he hates. Code 8: Part II stars Robbie Amell in the lead role with Stephen Amell, Alex Mallari Jr., Sirena Gulamgaus, Aaron Abrams, Moe Jeudy-Lamour, Akiel Julien, and Natalie Liconti starring in supporting roles.

The 2023 film follows the story of a couple on vacation as they follow a seductive woman outside of the resort ground she takes them to a place where violence and hedonism are everywhere, but a tragic accident leaves them facing death because of a zero crime tolerance policy but if you are rich enough they will execute your clone for you. Infinity Pool stars Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman in the lead roles with Mia Goth, Amanda Brugel, Caroline Boulton, Thomas Kretschmann, Anita Major, Jalil Lespert, and John Ralston starring in supporting roles.

The 2023 film follows the story of a seamstress Brynn as she lives all by her lonesome in her childhood home on the outskirts of a small town but when the aliens invade her town she has to do everything she can to survive while also dealing with her traumatic past. No One Will Save You stars Kaitlyn Dever in the lead role with Elizabeth Kaluev, Zack Duhame, Dari Lynn Griffin, Geraldine Singer, Dane Rhodes, and Evangeline Rose starring in supporting roles.

The 2023 film follows the trio of Fontaine, Slick Charles, and Yo-Yo as they stumble into a nefarious government conspiracy and then they go on a dangerous adventure to bring the conspiracy to light. Poor Things is a sci-fi comedy-drama film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Tony McNamara. Based on a 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray, the 2023 film follows the story of a young dead woman brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist. After her reanimation, she possesses the mind of a child and runs off with a lawyer on a whirlwind adventure and because she is not held captive by the prejudices of her mind she stands fearlessly for equality and liberation. Poor Things stars Emma Stone in the lead role with Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, Laurent Borel, Kathryn Hunter, Suzy Bemba, and Jerrod Charmichael starring in supporting roles.

Godzilla Minus One is a Japanese sci-fi kaiju action film written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The 2023 film is set after World War II when Japan hasn’t even completely recovered from the destruction as a giant kaiju appears off the coast of Tokyo. Godzilla Minus One stars Kamiki Ryunosuke in the lead role with Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Sakura Ando, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, and Michael Arias starring in supporting roles.

Dune: Part Two (Max & Prime Video Add-On)

Dune: Part Two has to be one of the most highly-anticipated sci-fi sequels of all time and thankfully it didn’t disappoint the fans. Based on the epic 1965 sci-fi novel Dune by Frank Herbert, the sequel film is also directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay co-written by Villeneuve and Jon Spaiths. The 2024 film continues the story of Paul Atreides as he and his mother join forces with the Fremen to exact their revenge against the Harkonnens.
