Fox’s psychological crime drama series Prodigal Son ended just after two seasons leaving the fans with an awesome but heartbreaking cliffhanger. So, in this article, we are going to tell you what would have happened if Prodigal Son didn’t get cancelled after its second season.

Prodigal Son – Synopsis?

PRODIGAL SON is a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone, from Emmy Award-nominated executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter (“Riverdale,” “The Flash”) and writers Chris Fedak (“Deception,” “Chuck”) and Sam Sklaver (“Deception,” “Bored to Death”). The series stars Tom Payne (“The Walking Dead”) as the son of a convicted serial killer (Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen, “Masters of Sex,” “Frost/Nixon”), who has made hunting murderers his life’s work.

As we saw in the last moments of the finale episode of the second season, Malcolm Bright stabbed his serial killer father Martin Whitley in self-defense, just before Detective Dani Powell stumbled upon the scene. Even though the co-showrunner Chris Fedak refused to confirm that if Martin lives or dies, he did tell TV Insider, that they were planning to bring back the character of Martin Whitley in Season 3, but that doesn’t mean Martin necessarily survived the stabbing because there are many flashback scenes in the series and Martin also appears in Malcolm’s mind as the co-showrunner Sam Sklaver pointed out.

As for the aftermath of the incident, it would be nearly impossible to cover this up because of Det. Powell arrived on the scene as soon as Malcolm stabbed Martin, but Malcolm could easily get out under from any suspicion because he could easily claim self-defense.

Fedak also talked about Ainsley’s future in the series and how they will make her story move forward and he said that going forward they were going the explore the “complicated psychology” which might also contain “elements of psychopathy“.

And last but not least we saw Malcolm and Dani kissing each other in the penultimate episode and as the showrunner said they wanted to see if they could have a relationship, Fedak said, “We all hope for them to find something in each other,” he also said that “We wanted to make kind of the spine of Season 3.” Which means the relationship between Malcolm and Dani would have been the centerpiece of the third season.

Even though the chances of Prodigal Son Season 3 coming are slim to none because there is still hope that some streaming service is going to hear the fans and give the showrunners Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver go-ahead for Season 3.
