A new deal has been announced that Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Disney’s Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective in order to produce a new Disney+ MCU series. With this announcement, it was also confirmed that Daniel Cretton will be returning to direct the sequel to Shang-Chi, which he will also write, as reported by Deadline.

The deal was made after the big success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starring Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung. Shang-Chi was the Marvel Studios film led by an Asian actor and Asian cast. The sequel will join the ever-expanding Marvel content library that will be coming out in the next few years.

Kevin Feige, President and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Studios said this on the return of Daniel Cretton:

“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

Cretton also made a statement on his return:

Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s vision for Onyx Collective. I can’t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community.”

The updates on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel production will be coming soon, as well as the details on the under-development Disney+ Marvel series.
