Netflix is here with another brilliant Korean monster drama after the popularity of Sweet Home, All of Us Are Dead, and Hellbound. The fans are expecting so much from their new offering and we are happy to say that it doesn’t disappoint. Created by Kang Eun-kyung, Gyeongseong Creature is set in 1945 Korea in the city of Gyeongseong during the Japanese Occupation where a group of young fight for their survival from a monster born out of human greed. Gyeongseong Creature stars Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee in the lead roles with So Hyun, Kim Hae-sook, and Jo Han-chul starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved both parts of the first season of Gyeongseong Creature and are waiting for the recently announced here are some titles you could watch while waiting for the new season to come out.
Ghoul (Netflix)
Ghoul is the most similar series to Gyeongseong Creature in this list as both of them feature a mysterious monster who are being hunted while they kill the people who are there to kill them. Created by Patrick Graham, Ghoul is a Hindi-language horror thriller series starring Radhika Apte in the lead role of Nida Rahim, a young interrogator working in the military detention center who is tasked with interrogating a mysterious new prisoner who seems to have supernatural powers. Ghoul also stars Manav Kaul, Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, Mahesh Balraj, and Rohit Pathak.
Sweet Home (Netflix)
Gyeongseong Creature is not Netflix’s first hit monster Korean series as that place belongs to Sweet Home, which recently aired its much-anticipated second season. Sweet Home revolves around the residents of an apartment who have to fight for their survival as many humans turn into monsters. The Netflix series mainly revolves around a troubled teenager who seems to be turning into a monster but still trying to latch on to his humanity. Sweet Home stars Song Kang in the lead role with Go Min-si, Lee Do-hyun, Goo Yoon Jung, Lee Si-young, and Lee Jin-wook starring in supporting roles.
Hellbound (Netflix)
Hellbound is a supernatural horror series that might not be very similar to Gyeongseong Creature but the genre and tone have many similarities and that’s the reason for Hellboung being on this list. The Netflix Korean series sees demonic monsters descending on the earth and killing certain individuals in a very brutal manner. Hellbound has multiple storylines all running at once, one of which follows a new cult that came into power by playing on people’s fear of being condemned to hell, and some people oppose them. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the Netflix stars Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-joo, Park Jeong-min, Won Jin-ah, and Yang Ik-june.
Kingdom (Netflix)
Kingdom is a period zombie series with many similarities to Gyeongseong Creature that you will love. The Netflix original Korean series is set in the 16th century, nearly three years after the end of the Imjin War when a mysterious plague spreads throughout the Kingdom of Joseon. Kingdom revolves around Crown Prince Lee Chang who is trying to figure out the reason behind this mysterious illness that is destroying the whole kingdom including the King. Based on the webtoon The Kingdom of the Gods by Kim Eun-hee and Yang Kyung-il, the Netflix series ran for two seasons and one special ending its run in 2021.
All of Us Are Dead (Netflix)
All of Us Are Dead has many similarities to Gyeongseong Creature including in its setting as both of them take place in a secluded building in which the characters are fighting for their survival. Based on a webtoon of the same name by Joo Dong-geun, the Netflix series revolves around a group of high school students who are trying to survive after a zombie outbreak in their city of Hyosan because of a derange science teacher who lets the virus loose. All of Us Are Dead has been renewed for a second season and it is expected to come out this year.
The Last of Us (Max & Prime Video Add-On)
HBO’s award-winning series The Last of Us doesn’t have many similarities to Gyeongseong Creature as it is much more of a zombie adventure series than a locked building survival one but in their tone and drama they do have similar elements. Based on a popular video game series of the same name, the HBO series takes place in a world that has been destroyed because of a pandemic that started 20 years ago, in this world, the story of the series revolves around Joel, a smuggler who is tasked with taking a teenage girl on a turbulent journey, but if they succeed in their quest there is a hope for a cure. The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the lead roles with Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett, Merle Dandridge, and Anna Torv starring in supporting roles.
Stranger Things (Netflix)
One of the most popular series on the face of this Earth is Netflix’s Stranger Things. While it is very different from Gyeongseong Creature in its concept if we just look at the monsters and the kids who are trying to survive them we might find some similarities and if you still don’t find any similarities watching Stranger Things is still a good idea. Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things revolves around a bunch of kids whose friend recently disappeared and a girl with mysterious powers suddenly came into their lives. Things get more interesting and dangerous when they find out that their friend is not even in this world. Stranger Things stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, David Harbour, Joe Keery, Natalie Dyer, Winona Ryder, Charlie Heaton, and Maya Hawke.
