Loudermilk is one of the most criminally underrated series that everyone should watch but almost nobody has. The brilliant series follows the titular character, a former alcoholic who runs a support group for a bunch of eccentric addicts. Loudermilk is a brilliantly funny series that will keep you entertained throughout its runtime. It ran for three hilarious seasons ending its run in 2020 so if you miss the series here are some shows you could watch next.

Shameless (Netflix & Rent on Prime Video)

Based on a British series of the same name, Shameless is one of the most celebrated comedy-drama series ever. The Showtime series revolves around the Gallagher family, the head of which is Frank, who is a heavy drinker resulting in him not being able to take care of his children. Looking after everyone in the family is the oldest Gallagher daughter Fiona, who struggles with her issues while also taking care of her family. Shameless ran for eleven brilliant seasons ending its run in 2021 and it had one of the best ensemble casts which included William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Justin Chatwin, Ethan Cutkosky, and many more. If you love the comedy and characters in Loudermilk, you will find a lot to love in this Showtime series.

Single Drunk Female (Rent on Prime Video)

Single Drunk Female is a comedy-drama series created by Simone Finch. The Freeform series revolves around a young woman named Samantha Fink, who is struggling with alcoholism, and after a public meltdown, her only chance to not end up in jail is to move back in with her overbearing mother and stay sober. Loudermilk has the same comedic style and similar character types to Single Female Drunk and that’s why this dramedy is highly recommended. Single Female Drunk was canceled by Freeform after only two seasons and it stars Sofia Black-D’Elia in the lead role with Sasha Compère, Rebecca Henderson, Ally Sheedy, Lily Mae Harrington, and Garrick Bernard starring in supporting roles.

Brockmire (AMC+, Pluto TV & Prime Video Add-On)

Brockmire has one of the most unique comedic styles but for Loudermilk fans, this series is a must-watch because of the similarities in the lead characters who share their love of alcohol. The IFC series revolves around Jim Brockmire, a once-popular major league baseball announcer but after a horrifically public meltdown that went viral on the internet, he had to leave everything behind. Now, he is given another chance as a minor-league baseball announcer in a dying town. Brockmire completed its story in four marvelously funny seasons and it stars Hank Azaria in the lead role with Amanda Peet and Tyrel Jackson Williams starring in supporting roles.

Californication (Showtime & Rent on Prime Video)

If you love Loudermilk, this Showtime series will be your cup of tea as in both of the series we get broken and addicted lead characters who are tested at every turn in their lives. Created by Tom Kapinos, Californication is a comedy-drama series and it revolves around a troubled writer who moved to Los Angeles to become popular and be with a loving woman. But now his personal life is a mess and his career is going off the rails but still he can’t resist the temptations coming at him on every turn in sunny California. Californication completed its story in seven seasons and it stars David Duchovny in the lead role with Natascha McElhone, Madeleine Martin, Evan Handler, Madeline Zima, and Addison Timlin starring in supporting roles.

A.P. Bio (Peacock & Rent on Prime Video)

A.P. Bio is a comedy series with a lead that has some similar characteristics to Sam Loudermilk. Created by Mike O’Brien, the Peacock series revolves around a disgraced Harvard scholar who doesn’t get his dream job and loses his current one because of an embarrassing public outburst. Now, he is back in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio where he takes on the job of teaching A.P. Bio at Whitlock High School but he refuses to teach the subject and starts plotting a revenge mission with his honor students against his unassuming rival. A.P. Bio was canceled by Peacock after four seasons and its stars It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia famed actor Glenn Howerton in the lead role of Jack Griffin with Patton Oswalt, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Jean Villepique, Nick Peine, Jacob Houston, Allisyn Snyder, and Aparna Brielle starring in supporting roles.

After Life (Netflix)

Starring the brilliant comedian Ricky Gervais in the lead role, this Netflix series titled After Life revolves around a grieving man who recently lost his wife to cancer. Now, with no reason to live and be happy, he thinks that he should kill himself but he soon finds out that making other people happy might give him a new reason to live. He works as a writer at his town’s local newspaper where he meets all sorts of people but he is always surrounded by his quirky band of colleagues some of whom he adores and others he tries to annoy. After Life has a comedic style you will enjoy if you love the comedy in Loudermilk and with a somewhat similar protagonist After Life is a must-watch for Loudermilk fans.

BoJack Horseman (Netflix)

BoJack Horseman is one of the most unique comedy shows ever made with its blend of tragedy and realism, this Netflix series crosses every line in the hopes of making you laugh and think. While BoJack Horseman is quite different from Loudermilk, it does have some similar themes. The animated series revolves around a humanoid horse who was a once famed sitcom actor and now he is a booze-filled self-pitying mess who decides to make a comeback 18 years after leaving the industry. I have to say that if you are easily offended don’t watch this series.

Fleabag (Prime Video)

Fleabag is one of the most brilliant comedy series ever made and with only two seasons it has garnered the love of millions of fans. The Prime Video series is based on an award-winning play of the same name and it comes from the same creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also stars as the titular character in both the series and the play. Fleabag revolves around a quick-witted, sexual, angry young woman who is riddled with grief because of a recent traumatic event as she leads a life of false bravado in London. While Fleabag is quite different from Loudermilk you will find some similar themes and characteristics that you might enjoy. The Prime Video series also stars Sian Clifford, Andrew Scott, Olivia Coleman, Brett Gelman, and Bill Patterson.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Hulu & Rent on Prime Video)

The longest-running live-action sitcom that is still getting better with each new season is very hard to make but still, it works because of the core group that is behind making this series possible. The FX series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia revolves around the owners and operators of an Irish pub in Philadelphia who call each other friends but leave no chance to one-up each other. From the very start of the series, we will see these supposed friends scheming and lying either to each other or to someone else and it usually lands them in a world of pain but still, they have yet to change and they may never change. The main cast of the series is Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito.

You’re the Worst (Hulu & Rent on Prime Video)

Created by Stephen Falk, the FX series You’re the Worst is a twisted romantic series that follows a doomed relationship between two extremely self-destructive people. You’re the Worst completed its story in six seasons and its stars Aya Cash and Chris Geere in the lead roles with Desmin Borges, Kether Donohue, and Janet Varney starring in supporting roles. You’re the Worst has some similar characters to Loudermilk, which you will love if you are a fan of the Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort series.
