So Help Me Todd is a fun comedy thriller series starring the always wonderful Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin. The legal drama series follows the titular character Todd, an out-of-luck private investigator, and her successful lawyer mother as they join hands to solve the crime. While So Help Me Todd isn’t a critical darling it is a fun watch that is being enjoyed by many people. The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix)
Netflix’s adaptation of the book series by Michael Connelly is a great legal drama and if you love the off-the-cuff attitude of Todd in So Help Me Todd, then you will find The Lincoln Lawyer very entertaining. Developed for television by Ted Humphrey, and created by David E. Kelley the Netflix series revolves around an idealistic lawyer Mickey Haller, who runs his law practice primarily from the backseat of his Lincoln car. If you think you have heard the name of this series before then you won’t be wrong as one of Connelly’s books was adapted before in Brad Furman’s 2011 film of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey.
The Recruit (Netflix)
Todd doesn’t really know what he is doing half of the time, but still, he has a tendency to dive head-first into danger and if you love that character trait in the protagonist then Netflix’s The Recruit is for you. Created by Alexi Hawley, The Recruit revolves around a young CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, who gets entangled in an international conspiracy that puts his life in constant danger. Starring Noah Centineo in the lead role with Laura Haddock, Fivel Stewart, Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Angel Parker starring in supporting roles.
Franklin & Bash (Pluto TV & Rent on Prime Video)
One of the most entertaining things in So Help Me Todd is its blend of comedy and legal drama, and if you also love the tone of the series then Franklin & Bash is the perfect show for you. Created by Kevin Falls and Bill Chais, the TNT series revolves around two best friends and street lawyers who join a big law firm where they are constantly at odds with their superiors who have a very conservative style of working at a law office. Private Eyes (Rent on Prime Video)
Private Eyes is a comedy-drama series that follows the exploits of private investigators, and if you loved that aspect of So Help Me Todd then you will find this Canadian series entertaining. Based on the book The Code by G.B. Joyce, Private Eyes follows the story of an ex-professional hockey player Matt Shade, who teams up with P.I. Angie to open up a new office that will take on some unlikely and dangerous cases. Created by Tim Kilby and Shelley Eriksen, Private Eyes stars Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson in the lead roles with Samantha Wan, Ennis Esmer, and Clé Bennett starring in supporting roles.
Veronica Mars (Hulu & Rent on Prime Video)
Veronica Mars is a comedy-drama with a similar plot to So Help Me Todd, and Veronica’s father isn’t some hotshot lawyer he is a big influence on our protagonist. Created by Rob Thomas, Veronica Mars follows the story of the titular character who is a high-schooler and while she was popular in the past now she is an outcast who helps her P.I. father in investigating some of the most twisted cases in Neptune, California. After its initial cancellation, Veronica Mars was brought back for a film and a limited series.
Bull (Prime Video & Paramount+)
Bull is a legal drama that revolves around the titular Dr. Jason Bull. Created by Phil McGraw and Paul Attanasio, the CBS series takes us to the offices of Dr. Jason Bull, who reads every movement of the jury to predict the outcome for their clients, he does this impossible task with the help of highly intelligent and experienced teammates. Bull stars Michael Weatherly in the lead role with Geneva Carr, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Freddy Rodriguez, and Annabelle Attanasio.
