The Family Man is one of the best spy action-adventure series ever made. The Prime Video series follows a middle-class family man, who also works as a world-class spy. The Hindi language series sees our hero trying to balance his familial responsibilities while also dealing with international threats to his country. So, if you liked the series and are waiting for the much anticipated Season 3, here are some more shows you could watch to pass the time.
Slow Horses (Apple TV+)
If you loved the dark humor and the world of espionage in The Family, you should check out Apple TV+ original series Slow Horses. Based on a book series by Mick Herron, the spy comedy series revolves around a group of MI5 rejects working under a gruff and often disgusting Jackson Lamb, who was once the very best of the agency but now the thing he is best at is hurling insults at his underlings. Slow Horses stars Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden in the lead roles with Rosalind Eleazar, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Saskia Reeves starring in supporting roles.
Bard of Blood (Netflix)
Bard of Blood is another Hindi language spy series that will have you on the edge of your seat. Starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead role, the Netflix original series revolves around Kabir Anand, who now works as a Shakespeare professor but before that he was a RAW Agent who was expelled because of a mission gone wrong. He is once again called to action on a new mission that might force him to face his past. While this series doesn’t have the humor or relationships like The Family Man, this series does have the action and adventure you loved in the Raj & DK series.
Jack Ryan (Prime Video)
The Family Man is a scarce series because very few shows do both spy thriller and familial drama, but if you loved the action in The Family Man, we have another Prime Video series for you to watch. Based on characters by Tom Clancy, and adapted for television by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan revolves around the titular CIA analyst, who comes upon a series of suspicious bank transactions and this leads him from his desk job to a world of pain trying to catch a very dangerous man, who is a threat to the US and its allies. Jack Ryan stars John Krasinski in the title role with Wendell Pierce, Abbie Cornish, and Ali Suliman starring in supporting roles.
Condor (MGM+ & Prime Video Add-On)
Condor is a through-and-through edge-of-the-seat thriller. Based on a novel titled Six Days of Condor by James Grady and a film titled Three Days of Condor by Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel, the spy thriller series has so much to offer for spy thriller genre fans. Condor revolves around a CIA analyst named Joe Tuner, whose life is upside down when someone kills all of his colleagues, and somehow when he escapes, all of the blame is put upon him. Now, Joe must save himself from a relentless assassin while also finding out a vast conspiracy created by a rogue faction in the CIA.
Homeland (Hulu & Rent on Prime Video)
Homeland is one of the most popular entries in the spy thriller genre, and if you haven’t heard of it by now then you are in for a surprise. Based on an Israeli series titled Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff, the Showtime series revolves around a CIA officer Carrie Mathison who is brilliant at her job, but she is also bipolar which makes her unpredictable and volatile. She is helped by her longtime mentor in doing everything she can to stop the people trying to harm her country. Homeland stars Claire Danes in the lead role with Mandy Patinkin, Damian Lewis, and Rupert Friend starring in supporting roles.
Strike Back (Rent on Prime Video)
Strike Back is a high-octane British action-adventure series that follows the story of agents of a top-secret anti-terrorist organization who put their lives in grave danger to defeat and kill dangerous terrorists. It is based on a novel of the same name by Chris Ryan, a former Special Air Service soldier. Strike Back stars Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester in the lead roles of Damian Scott and Sergeant Michael Stonebridge. If you loved the action and spy sh*t in The Family Man, then you will love Strike Back.
Patriot (Prime Video)
If you loved the quirky humor and the randomness of The Family Man then you will find Patriot very entertaining. Created by Steven Conrad, the Prime Video series follows the story of John Tavner, a disillusioned intelligence officer who is given a mission to work undercover as a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Starring Michael Dorman in the lead role with Michael Chernus, Kurtwood Smith, Terry O’Quinn, and Kathleen Munroe starring in supporting roles.
