Not sleeping in the is a big problem for many people but if they had a best friend who is also up with them, could it be really fun. The new Apple TV+ series Still Up answers that question through a sweet story about two friends Lisa and Danny suffering from insomnia, who are connected mostly through video calls.
Created by Steve Burge and Natalie Walter, Still Up has a small cast and it does a good job of focusing on the important storylines through them while also establishing their eccentricities and wants in the story seamlessly. We never feel that any of the characters in the series are out of place or forced in the story.
The performances in the series are great led by Antonia Thomas (Scrotal Recall) and Craig Roberts (Submarine). The supporting cast is also marvelous and puts forward a commendable performance which includes Lois Chimimba as Amy, Rich Fulcher as Cat Man, Samantha Spiro as Veggie’s mother, and Luke Fetherston as Adam. But the absolute stand-out in the supporting cast is Blake Harrison as Veggie who plays the perfect caring boyfriend who is completely in love with our lead Lisa.
During most of the screen time, we will see the characters connecting through video calls which will take some time to get used to but the payoff for that is absolutely exhilerating and emotional. While Still Up does do a great job at being funny some of the jokes absolutely don’t work but we move on from them fairly quickly and they won’t be very noticeable.
In conclusion, Still Up is a very funny and heartfelt series that you should check out on one of those long nights when you are able to sleep because I did absolutely that and it felt very entertaining and heartfelt. Check out the official trailer and synopsis for Still Up below:
