The third episode of the brilliant final season of Succession titled ‘Connor’s Wedding’ is finally here and in this episode, we see a wedding and the death of probably the most essential character of the series.
Episode 3 of the final season of Succession titled ‘Connor’s Wedding‘ seems to be the most important episode in the history of Succession. Episode 3 begins with Roman (Kieran Culkin) heading to Connor’s wedding cruise. During his car ride, he gets a call from Logan (Brian Cox), who is heading to Sweden to discuss the deal with Mattson (Alexander Skarsgaard) instead of attending his Son’s wedding. Logan asks Roman to inform Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron) that she will soon be fired from her position as CEO of WayStar RoyCo. This upsets Roman but when Logan asks him if he will be able to do it or not he says that he will have the talk with Gerri and this talk is supposed to happen at the wedding which makes Roman even more uncomfortable.
Then we see Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) arriving at the airport where he joins Logan. When Logan asks Tom about where Mattson stands with the deal Tom says that Mattson is a bit angry about the board holding up the deal but he still wants the deal and if he is taking the time out of his day to meet with them there has to be an upside or the meeting wouldn’t have been possible. Logan then tells Tom that this is Cyd’s (Jeannie Berlin) last day at ATN, which makes Tom a bit happy as he is the next in line to take her job but Logan also gives him the duty to find out the moment Roman fires Gerri from the CEO position. Tom instantly calls Roman and asks if he has done it yet but Roman snaps back at him saying that he just talked with Logan about this and he hasn’t even run into Gerri yet. But after the call ends Roman goes to Gerri and says that there is something they have to talk about. Gerri asks about what they have to talk and Roman while resisting at that very moment still informs Gerri that she will soon be fired from her position and Roman is the messenger his dad chose to inform her about this. When Gerri asks why she is being fired Roman says that his dad is not happy about how she handled the Cruises debacle and fine they had to pay to DOJ was too high. Gerri says that she walked the company through a minefield without it getting too hurt and she fell out of favor with Logan because of the lewd pictures Roman sent Gerri.
After talking with Gerri, Roman is really upset and calls Logan but gets his voicemail where Roman leaves a message to his father saying that he doesn’t know what Logan’s final goal is or if he is just trying to mess with Roman by making him do these crappy things. Roman asks his father why he isn’t at his son’s wedding and says when you get a moment call him back. Just as Roman puts the phone down he is “kidney chopped” by Kendall (Jeremy Strong) from the back. We also see Connor (Alan Ruck) obsessing over the wedding cake, saying it is inadequate. Then we see Kendall, Roman, and Willa (Justine Lupe) discussing Connor’s obsession over the cake where Kendall reveals that when Connor’s mom was being sent to a mental institute Connor was given a cake and to process his grief he was eating cake continuously for over a week. Then Roman asks Willa to show them to a private room where he won’t be interrupted by people.
Then we see Kendall and Roman meeting Shiv (Sarah Snook) and from there they head to the private room while discussing the Waystar RoyCo deal Kendall reassures his siblings that Logan will get more money from Mattson. When they get to the room they meet Connor who is still hoping that his father will make it to the wedding but the siblings know the truth and ask Shiv to break the bad news to Connor. As soon as Shiv left the room Roman gets a call from Tom, who informs him that his father has collapsed in the plane after hearing this both Kendall and Roman get really concerned and after that Tom informs the brothers that the flight crew is doing chest compressions on Logan. Tom also says that he will be putting the phone by Logan’s ear and asks the brothers to say what they want to say in possibly his last moments. Kendall gives the first chance to Roman as he doesn’t know what to say. Roman also obviously doesn’t know what to say but regardless he says that he loves him and he will win and won’t die and gives the phone over to Kendall, who says that he can’t forgive him but still loves him. After that Kendall goes out to get Shiv, and after meeting he informs her that their “dad’s in trouble.” As soon as Shiv gets in the room she asks if Logan is really dead and when she is tasked with saying something to her father she completely breaks down and asks him not to die and also says that she loves him.
After their last words with their father, Kendall immediately gets on the phone with Frank (Peter Friedman) and asks him to put the pilot on the phone but he is denied and from there we see Kendall trying to get the best doctors for his father as soon as he gets on the ground. When Kendall asks Frank that if Logan is really gone and Frank confirms that, we see him barely holding on. Then he goes back in the room to his siblings and informs them that Frank thinks that Logan is really dead, and Shiv says that why they didn’t get her before as she didn’t get a chance to talk to her father. Roman asks if his father was checking his messages in his final moments as he thinks that his message might be what was responsible for his father’s sudden collapse.
Then they see Connor in distance and they realize that they also have to tell him and Roman asks Kendall to do it. Kendall and Shiv go to Connor to inform him about their father’s passing and as soon as he hears that Connor says that “he never even liked me,” and then he says that he never got to chance to make Logan proud of him. After saying that Connor immediately heads to the private room and the siblings follow him. Where Roman still isn’t completely accepting that Logan is really dead and when the other siblings try to affirm Logan’s passing, Roman snaps back and says that they don’t really know if Logan is definitively dead, and until they know they shouldn’t say that he’s dead.
From there we see Tom, Karl (David Rasche), Frank, and Karolina (Dagmara Dominczyk) in a separate room on the plane where Karolina suggests that they should be starting to put a timeline together for when they announce Logan’s death. They are interrupted by Kerry, who is clearly shocked after seeing Logan collapsing. The team then asks Kerry (Zoe Winters) to leave the room as they are trying to put a response together for when the news breaks, when Kerry asks if she should be a part of the response they reply that she is not needed. After that we see Tom heading to a private room from where he calls Greg and tells him about Logan’s passing and asks him to go to the office and delete a folder named “Logistics” on his desktop and then also delete it from the trash. When Greg (Nicholas Braun) asks Tom if he is okay, Tom replies that he lost his protector and he is clearly not okay. Tom also asks Greg to keep the lid on Logan’s passing because if the news leaks it will be a big problem.
Then we see Hugo (Fisher Stevens) coming into the private room with the siblings, where they are discussing if their father is really dead one of them even asks if he can Logan be testing them and if he is not really sick, but quickly after that Kendall gets a call and is informed that the flight crew has stopped performing CPR on Logan. Soon after that the siblings hear from Hugo that the people on the plane are drafting a statement and the siblings are not comfortable with that so Roman calls them and the siblings tell them they will be drafting the statement and there is no need for them to do it. Also, the wedding cruise had left the harbor so the siblings ordered Hugo to go over and ask the captain to get them back to the land.
After their call with the team on the plane, we see Gerri come into the room with Hugo who has told Gerri about Logan’s condition. From then on Kendall tries to ask Gerri if they can hold off the news till the market closes and Shiv asks if they should keep the plane circling in the air so they can have more time to think. After some more discussions, Hugo and Gerri leave the room leaving all of the siblings behind where Kendall tells his brother and sister that whatever they do today (the day their father died) will be etched in stone and that their actions today can be misinterpreted which could be hard for them in the future.
In another private room, we see Connor and Willa discussing Logan’s death and if they should cancel the wedding to which the answer is pretty obviously yes. Connor tells Willa that he is afraid that she is going to leave to which Willa jokingly says “Not today.” Connor also asks Willa that is she only with him for the money to which Willa replies that there is something about money that makes her feel safe in this relationship but she also is happy with him.
Back to the siblings who are discussing how it felt like the moment when they heard about Logan collapsing. They also discuss about what they have to do now, to which Roman responds that they “don’t have to do anything” as their father just died. In the next moment, Gerri comes into the room while talking with Karolina on the phone who informs the siblings that she got a call from a reporter asking about Logan’s death. The siblings don’t know how the news got out there but it is final now that the media know and they will have to give a statement, Karolina tries to suggest that if the siblings can’t give the statement, they will. Gerri also says that the siblings don’t have to attempt the board meeting if they don’t want to as they can be exempt on compassionate grounds. The siblings leave the room after that, to discuss what they should do. Kendall suggests that they could sell the company to Mattson tomorrow and leave it be. They decide that until the board meets for the market their names should be out there and they should give the statement. Roman is given the duty to inform Matsson about Logan’s passing.
After leaving the boat the siblings head to the airport where they go straight to a room behind where the press is gathering. We also see a glimpse of Colin (Scott Nicholson) clearly distraught over Logan’s passing. Then we see the siblings getting ready to give the statement to the press, and in some moments they head to the press where Shiv speaks and Kendall and Roman stand behind her. She is asked by the press if they will be involved with the company after their father’s passing to which Shiv replies yes. From there they head outside where Roman shows the siblings the Waystar Royco dipping after the news of Logan’s death broke. They hug for a moment and then Shiv heads home with Tom, Roman asks Kendall if he wants to go see their dad, to which Kendall says that he is more comfortable watching it from a distance. We see a glimpse of Connor getting married to Willa in front of a handful of guests. The last scene is really somber in which we see each character grieving silently while the moon comes up.
