Nicki Micheaux‘s directorial debut Summer of Silence, which was also written and produced by Micheaux has been selected to screen at the 31st Pan African Film Festival 2024. The film will be screening twice in 2024 at Cinemark Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Complex and XD on February 12 at 5 PM and then on the next day on Feb. 13 at 9 PM.
Micheaux’s Summer of Violence recently won Best Picture and Audience Award at the DTLA Film Festival, earned the Outstanding First Feature Award at the Tallgrass Film Festival, and was nominated for the Narrative Jury Award at the Austin Film Festival.
Summer of Violence is a coming-of-age story love story and it is set during the turbulent summer of 1993 in Denver, Colorado. The film revolves around a young college grad who refuses to go to law school in order to pursue poetry. Cut off from her father’s money she must survive the Summer of Violence while living in Denver.
Summer of Violence has a talented cast including Kasey Inez, Jahking Guillory, Madhulika Krishnan, and Damon Gupton. Alongside Micheaux, the film is produced by Efuru Flowers, Sean Riggs, Maureen Mottley, Brian Mitchell, and Stelio Savante. Micheaux also plays the executive producer role alongside Johnny Wimbrey, Brian Mitchell, Sonya Marchand, Crystal Wimbrey, Psalms Wimbrey, and Hannah Wimbrey.
