HBO Max is becoming like Disney+ for DC superheroes with shows like Titans, Doom Patrol, and the upcoming Peacemaker series, and now The Batman spinoff Penguin series is under development at HBO Max. Penguin is one of the most famous Batman villains and he will be played by an unrecognizable Colin Farrell.

The series will be executive produced by Matt Reeves and according to Deadline, the show will be a “Scarface-like” origin story that will follow the rise of Oswald Cobblepot’s criminal empire. There are no confirmed for the series yet, but Farrell apparently has been approached to reprise his role of the criminal boss. The series will be written by Impulse and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alumn Lauren LeFranc.

This will allegedly be the second series based on Reeves’ The Batman film on HBO Max. A prequel series on the corruption of the Gotham Police Department is also under development with Joe Barton serving as the showrunner on the series.

Along with Reeves and Clark, the untitled spinoff series will be produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. If the project gets confirmed we could see an announcement at the upcoming DC FanDome event on October 16.

The Penguin spinoff series is not yet officially confirmed, but we do know that a new trailer for the upcoming The Batman film will be released during DC FanDome in October. The Batman will premiere in theaters on March 4, 2022.
