The next entry in The Conjuring Universe, the sequel to its spin-off The Nun has officially started the film in France. The news was confirmed by filmmaker James Wan, who is serving as a producer on the upcoming sequel has taken to Instagram to let the fans know.
The sequel will be directed by The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It by famed director Michael Chaves and it will star Euphoria’s famed actor Storm, Reid, in the lead role. The Nun 2 will see the return of fan-favorite Bonnie Aarons as the demon Valak and according to THR.
The first synopsis for the upcoming sequel has been released and it reads: “1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN.”
The Nun was set in the year 1952, which means that the sequel will be making a time jump of nearly four years. The first film followed the exploits of Sister Irene played by Taissa Farmiga.
The Nun was wildly successful at the box office even though it didn’t get much praise from critics. The 2018 film amassed a whopping $365 million on a $22 million budget.
The Nun 2 is all set to arrive in theaters on September 8, 2023.
