Netflix’s hit series The Witcher is getting its own universe in which a prequel series named The Witcher: Blood Origin is in production and according to Deadline, Lenny Henry (Lord of the Rings Series). Mirren Mack (The Nest), Nathaniel Curtis (It’s A Sin), and Dylan Moran (Black Books) are joining the cast of the upcoming fantasy series.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is filming right now in the UK and it will be set in an elven world, 1200 years before the events of The Witcher series. The prequel series will focus on the events that lead up to making the first Witcher, and also the events that lead to the pivotal ‘Conjunction and Spheres’, in short, it will focus on the time when the worlds of men, elves, and monsters collided.
Henry, Mack, Curtis, and Moran will be joining the also newly announced cast which includes Jacob Collins-Levy (Young Wallander) as Eredin, Lizzie Annis as Zacaré, Huw Novelli (The Capture) as Callan “Brother Death”, Francesca Mills (Harlots) as Meldof, Amy Murray as Fenrik, and Zach Wyatt (Karen Pirie) in the role of Syndril.
The six-part prequel miniseries will be led by Laurence O’Fuarain (Vikings), Sophia Brown (Marcella), and Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians).
The series will be directed by Sarah O’Gorman and Vicky Jewson, in a total of six episodes, O’Gorman will direct episodes number 101, 104, and 106. Episode numbers 102, 103, and 105 will be directed by Jewson. Declan De Barra will serve as the showrunner for the series and he will also be an executive producer alongside Lauren Schmidt Hissirch and Matt O’Toole.
The creative consultant on the series will be Andrzej Sapkowski. The executive producers from Hivemind will be Jason Brown and Sean Daniel. The executive producers from Platige Films will be Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko.
The Witcher series starring Henry Cavill in the titular role just revealed a trailer for Season 2 a few days and the series is premiering on Netflix on December 17.
