Timothée Chalamet is ready to play the young genius inventor Willy Wonka in Warner Bros. and the Roald Dahl Story Co.’s Wonka.
According to Deadline, Timothée Chalamet has been cast as the young Willy Wonka in the origin story film of the genius inventor and chocolate maker Willy Wonka. The film will be based on the characters by Roald Dahl, and it will follow a young Willy Wonka before he opened the world’s most famous chocolate factory.
Deadline also reports that Timothée Chalamet will have a chance to show off his dancing and singing skills, as there will be many musical numbers appearing in the film. Chalamet has been the favorite choice for some time now but there were scheduling problems that Warner Bros. and Chalamet had to overcome.
Wonka film will be directed by Paul King, with a script he wrote with Simon Farnaby (with prior writers including Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson). The film is being produced by David Heyman with his company Heyday Films, and Luke Kelly will be also producing the film. The film’s executive producers are Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire.
Warner Bros. has made Roald Dahl’s classic novel into films two times before, the first film premiered in 1971 and it starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, and the second film premiered in 2005 and it starred Johnny Depp as the chocolate maker Willy Wonka. The new film will be Warner Bros.’s third time making a film about Willy Wonka, but it is the first time the film will not feature Charlie Bucket.
Timothée Chalamet is an Oscar-nominated actor with plenty of great upcoming with Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Warner Bros.’ Dune, and Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up in which he will star with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
