The series will take a look at the seedy, corrupt underbelly of South Florida.
Apple TV+ has confirmed that they are ordering a new drama series consisting of 10-episodes called Bad Monkey, and it will star Vince Vaughn, who will also serve as an executive producer of the series. Ted Lasso and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence will take the responsibility of the head writer and he will also be an executive producer on the show. The Apple TV+ series is based on a novel of the same name which came out in 2013 and was written by Carl Hiaasen.
Bad Monkey series will follow Andrew Yancey (Vaughn), a former detective and South Florida resident who gets demoted from his post to a restaurant inspector for some unknown reasons. When a tourist catches a severed human instead of a fish while fishing the plot unravels further. The series will take Andrew Yancy on a journey full of greed, corruption, and the environmental degradation which has been happening to the South Florida ecosystem over the past several decades. As the name of the series indicates there will also be a monkey in the series.
Both Lawrence and Vaughn seem like a perfect fit for a series like this. Recently Lawrence’s Ted Lasso became the most nominated comedy series in only its first season, getting 20 nominations. Vaughn is mostly known for his comedic roles but he has also done some good drama roles like in the second season of True Detective, Dragged Across Concrete, and Arkansas.
The release date for Bad Monkey has not been announced yet, but the series will exclusively premiere on Apple TV+.
