The Russo Brothers‘ latest venture into the thriller action genre has turned from a standalone film to an ever-expanding cinematic universe, as it has been renewed by Netflix for a sequel and a spin-off film.
The Gray Man that released in select theaters on July 15 before getting a worldwide release on Netflix on July 22.
The sequel will bring back the partnership of The Russo Brothers and the leading man Ryan Gosling as Sierra Six.
The spy thriller film is based on Mark Greaney’s novel series of the same name. The book series began in 2009.
It became a huge hit with its first outing since then 11 books have been released with the twelfth book coming in 2023.
While the Netflix film has recieved a mixed bag of reviews from the critics, the audience seems to love the action romp with it being rated at 91% audience score at Rotten Tomatoes.
The Gray Man 2 will see the return of Gosling as Sierra Six once again with the Russo Brother coming back to direct and also The Gray Man co-writer Stephen McFeely will be returning to write the script.
The Russo Brothers issued this statement with the sequel announcement: “The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal.
We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie,
we had always intended for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan,
as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.”
The Gray Man will also receive a spin-off film, and no announcements about the film have been revealed except that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will be writing the script for the upcoming spin-off film.
The duo also worked on Deadpool and Zombieland franchises.
